Kimya Glasgow - St Vincent and the Grenadines
Known
for her cool and easy resort wear in Silks, Cottons and Linens, Kimya
Glasgow started her design business in 2000, but had been designing on an
amateur basis since her early teens. She is a Barbados Community College
graduate, with an Associate Degree in Fashion Design, and apprenticed with
the grande dame of Caribbean Fashion - Trinidadian Claudia Pegus.
Kimya has participated in St Kitts Fashion Weekend, Caribbean Fashion
Week, Barbados Fashion Week and Fashion Caribbean - St Vincent's premier
Fashion show, and was a 2008 Caribbean Fashion Awards nominee.
The Kimya Glasgow Resort 2008-2009 Collection was inspired by the Regency
era in Colonial St Vincent and the Grenadines. It uses tropical fabrics
like silk, linen and cotton as well as non-traditional fabrics like
burlap, and features deconstruction details, while staying true to the
client's needs of light and easy pieces. The colour story is White, Black
and Naturals.
The collection also makes use of St Vincent's vibrant handicraft industry,
through its use of traditional Vincentian basket-weaving. The collection
is accessorized with jewellery by Vincentian Fine Artist and Goldsmith
Josette Norris, known for her stunning work with precious and base metals
and organic, precious and semi-precious stones
