In 2002 Hendy was selected as the Michael Awards (the Oscars of the Fashion Industry) recipient for Menswear Designer of the Year, the following year he was nominated asn selected as one of the finalist for the Fashipn Group International Award for Designer of the Year. New York Times', Polly Mellon named Francis Hendy the one to watch as a future leading designer in the fashion industry. He has also been named as one of three future stars of the industry. FH designs have appeared in many publications including WWD, Sportswear International, Essence, DNR including many others. One DNR headline boldly stated "The Hendy Man Can". Hendy grew up in a family with fashion and creativity around him. Both his mother and grandfather were in the business, a seamstress and master tailor respectively. His love for fashion was evident from a young child and as a teenager who played soccer; he had to make his own pants to fit his athletically built legs, and so began making his own clothes. His natural skills were honed with courses at both FIT and Parsons School of Design. In 1999, the "Francis Hendy" first menswear Collection was shown during New York's Fashion Week and has been receiving great reviews at every Showing. In 2002 the first Francis Hendy retail store was opened in SOHO and the company launched its women's wear line of designer sportswear. Hendy loves working with leather, suede and other exotic skins, as well
as fine silks and wools to create finely tailored suits and separates. His
designs have been described as exquisite, cool, modern, sexy, and having
widespread appeal for men and women. Color, cut and innovation are
hallmarks of his signature design style and philosophy. His ultimate goal
in the fashion industry is not only to continue building a successful
business but to do good for others as well. |
